As for the plastics industry as a whole, it’s in a period of a small downward trend beginning in the first quarter of this year. Many factors and variables have gone into this overall downward trend like the slowdown in global trade and the deselection of some plastic products like plastic bags. As for the good news in the industry, there is a recent upward trend in retail sales in grocery stores. Plastics Manufacturer Polykar Inc. is Expanding in Canada
Polykar Inc. makes polyethylene film as well as compostable bags, garbage bags, and food and industrial-grade liners. The company’s first and only location is in Quebec so they have selected a 3-acre location in Edmonton, Alberta that will have a 30-million-pound-per-year capacity. This location will be able to serve its customers in Western Canada and the United States. The second plant will also provide faster delivery, higher production capacity and manufacturing capacity in that region. The $20 million total investment will create dozens of jobs before and after construction. Polykar is still working on expansion projects in the hope to bolster its overall capacity.
